In my over three decades of experience as a franchise consultant, there are a number of questions I am frequently asked about how to franchise your business. Here is another one of the most common Q&A’s:

Q. How can I forge a good relationship with my Franchisees when I franchise my business?
A. At National Franchise Associates, we believe if you focus on putting together a solid franchise offering when you franchise your business, the money will follow. Our philosophy is to make the business arrangement a true win-win for both the Franchisor and the Franchisee. Our first tip for building a strong relationship with your Franchisees when you franchise your business is to structure the franchise program to ensure it works from the perspective of your target Franchisees. Can they make enough money? Can they get fulfillment from this career? Are they receiving sufficient Franchisor support? Are they respected? Remember, when you franchise your business, your Franchisees are in a sense one type of customers. With customer service, the little things matter.

Tip #2: Do not make it all about the money when you franchise your business. When we receive calls from Franchisees unhappy with their Franchisors, inevitably, the Franchisee says something along the lines of “The only time I hear from the Franchisor is when they want money.” Don’t do that. Be there for your Franchisees when you franchise your business. Provide all the support promised in the Franchise Agreement and F.D.D. If possible, over-deliver.

Tip # 3: Another way to build a strong relationship with your Franchisees when you franchise your business is to communicate consistently with them. Establish a program of frequent points of contact through telephone calls, video meetings, webinars, newsletters, bulletins and visits to their locations. The communication cannot be all one-way. Establish dialogues and group conversations Encourage your Franchisees to contact you with questions, concerns and suggestions. Take their input seriously when you franchise your business. Not every idea will merit implementation, but each is worthy of consideration.
